Rescue The Data From Your Dell PC

DELL DIMENSION 8400:

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 which I am using with a master and slave hard drive system. However, while I connected the system up to the slave, I am not able to see it in my desktop. I took the old hard drive from a computer which had failed, and put it into the new computer specifically in order to extract the files, as suggested by an IT expert. However, what has happened is that the system is not working for me, and I cannot get it to operate at all. The new computer cannot see the old drive, there is no error, it is as though it was not there. I have looked at the jumper, and set it up to cable selection, so there should be no problem there.

DELL DIMENSION 8400:

I was given a Dell Dimension 8400 by a friend, with the information that it was broken. I thought that perhaps it was just a simple CPU problem, and so I took it thinking that it would not be too difficult to fix. What I have found, though, is completely different from what I was expecting. Firstly. the computer does some very odd things when I power it up. Firstly, the CPU fan goes absolutely crazy, spinning around really fast until I worry that it is about to come out of the tower, and secondly the CD Rom drive will open up, and then close itself immediately. I can hear the hard drive being read, and also hear the other fan in the system working. I have absolutely no graphics, despite being able to see a graphics card in the system.
